eDoB Online Map - PILLBOX (TYPE FW3/24): S0000426 (Extant)
Location: On landward (S) side of railway line, S of Dunster Beach.
Condition: Good
Description: 05/03/1996 Pillbox with 6 sides: 5 embrasures, all with metal flaps. Door 28ins wide, 3 steps up and then steps down into pillbox. Overall height approx. 8ft. Brick anti-ricochet wall. Concrete walls all have wood battens inset to take outside wood cladding (one piece still in place). Pillbox was disguised as a platelayers hut. False brick chimney on roof. with PLAN drawn on form. 1972 Structure plotted from OS 1: 2500 sheet. 27/06/1941 Pillbox plotted from air photograph standing by railway, with camouflage in place to make it look like a railside building with pitched roof. 16/01/2003 Type 24 pillbox, concrete-faced (possibly originally with brick shuttering). Steel surrounds to embrasures. Faces railway line (N). Two steps up to doorway. There is a chimney stack on the roof from original camouflage. In excellent condition. No public access.
